It’s not about weight loss. This low-carb, high-fat (LCHF) lifestyle that I’m just so dang excited to talk about is not just about losing weight. It’s about feeling great.

Today, I spoke again with Nutritionist Mihaela Telecan, RD, via Facebook Live (you can watch the replay here), about how a LCHF diet makes you FEEL. As one of my patients reported, “My energy is literally off the chain right now…and THAT is why I love it.”

On a LCHF diet, you learn to listen to your body. Take hunger, for instance. You won’t feel hungry as often because you’re eating amazingly satiating foods. You’ll also eat when you’re hungry–not by the clock, which is incredibly convenient for the super-busy set.

Once you reset, your cravings will disappear, and your hunger will be a cue that you’re actually hungry and not just experiencing a blood-sugar crash. Getting “hangry” will be a thing of the past. You’ll be able to easily identify what foods spur your insulin to rise and, consequently, your blood sugar to crash.

A LCHF diet is not about deprivation. On the contrary, it’s about giving your body exactly what it wants and needs. If your body wants meat, you’ll eat meat. If it doesn’t, you won’t. (I’m not suggesting a diet ridiculously high in protein, by the way.)

And listening to your body also means paying attention to your bowels. Yes, I’m going there. How does your gut react to the foods you eat? I have so many patients who complain of gut upset. Guess what? It’s often not gluten or dairy. It’s the sugar and carbs.

In this episode, we discuss low-carb and exercise (Mihaela is a long-distance cyclist), the best sources of animal protein, and the many, many beneficial side effects of eating this way. So take a peek here and, as always, feel free to send me your questions. I’ll address them on Facebook Live at 1:15 pm next Wednesday.

Hope to see you all there!
