We have partnered with TrueScan to offer our members deeply discounted access to full-body MRI scans that assess more than 500 medical conditions, including early-stage cancers, aneurysms, autoimmune diseases, and musculoskeletal abnormalities. If you’re interested in a full-body MRI, contact your Griffin physician or patient care coordinator.

Located in St. Petersburg, TrueScan is Tampa Bay’s first full-body MRI center. Founder Michael Andoniades believes that too many lives have been cut short by late detection of disease and illnesses, especially before symptoms appear. His mission is to save lives by making healthcare more proactive. Our Griffin physicians share the same philosophy: helping our members identify risk factors early empowers them to make changes to mitigate these risks.

What is a TrueScan Full-Body MRI?

TrueScan’s approach is centered around a non-invasive, radiation-free MRI scan that analyzes the body from head to ankle and captures high-quality images that can detect 500+ different conditions in a single session. The process takes about 60 minutes, and results and images are available within a few days.

Conditions detected include:

  • Solid tumors (cancers as early as Stage 1)
  • Brain and abdominal aortic aneurysms
  • Neurological conditions
  • Metabolic disorders (e.g., fatty liver disease, hemochromatosis)
  • Autoimmune disorders (e.g., multiple sclerosis)
  • Spinal injuries or abnormalities
  • Non-cancerous findings, such as cysts

Results are typically available within a few days and reviewed by a board-certified neuroradiologist with more than 30 years of experience.

Why Should I get a Scan?

Genetic and Family History: If you have a family history of chronic illness or hereditary conditions, a scan may help uncover issues before they manifest.

Unresolved Symptoms: If traditional tests have failed to explain your symptoms, a full-body MRI may offer deeper insights or peace of mind.

Proactive Health Management: This scan creates a baseline image of your body, helping detect conditions before symptoms appear—empowering timely decisions.

TrueScan is intended to complement other routine screenings your Griffin physician may recommend, including mammograms, colonoscopies, Pap smears, CCTAs, and more. The GRAIL Galleri test GCM offers can also complement TrueScan by detecting the presence of certain types of cancer (through a blood test); the full-body MRI can then confirm the presence and stage of cancer.

Who Should Not Get a Scan?

For your safety, those with an implantable device of a pacemaker, defibrillator, or neurostimulator/spinal cord stimulator are not eligible for the full-body MRI scan. For other devices, please check with your Griffin physician, who will advise you on safety concerns.

How are Results Delivered?

Your scan results are interpreted by TrueScan’s expert radiologist and compiled into an easy-to-understand report. Your Griffin physician will:

  • Review the findings
  • Discuss any follow-up steps
  • Coordinate any additional care you may need

Key Benefits of Full-Body MRI

  • Early Detection of Serious Conditions: Over 50% of cancers are still diagnosed in late stages, drastically reducing treatment options and survival rates (American Association for Cancer Research, Cancer Progress Report 2022).
  • Comprehensive Health Insights: The scan covers the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and legs, providing a thorough overview of your health. Many conditions and diseases can be silently progressing long before symptoms show up. The scan gives you and your physician a detailed view inside the body, creating a baseline to track changes over time.
  • No Radiation or Contrast Dyes: Unlike some imaging methods, TrueScan’s MRI is free from harmful radiation and intravascular contrast agents, ensuring a safer experience.
  • Comfortable and Relaxing Experience: Patients can enjoy streaming their favorite shows or music during the scan, with noise-canceling headphones. The scanner is air-conditioned, and you will always be in contact with an MRI technologist through a two-way intercom system.
  • Fast Results and Expert Follow-Up: TrueScan combines the latest hardware technology and custom software protocols to capture the highest quality images. Results and images are delivered within a few days, and your Griffin physician will consult with TrueScan’s experienced physicians to discuss your findings and next steps.

Why It Matters

More than 50% of cancers are still diagnosed in late stages, when treatment options are limited and survival rates drop sharply (AACR Cancer Progress Report, 2022). Furthermore, most serious conditions have no routine screening options—86% of cancers are diagnosed only after symptoms appear or by accident (NORC at the University of Chicago, 2022). Our partnership with TrueScan provides our members with a tool for early detection, potentially saving lives through timely intervention.

“We created TrueScan because serious conditions are often diagnosed too late,” says Andoniades. “By the time symptoms appear, the disease has typically progressed. We built TrueScan to change that, giving people a proactive way to take control of their health.”
